INTRODUCTION

TARA JEANNE (name reserved) is an exceptional semi-custom ‘DownEast’ express cruiser sure to make your heart go pitter patter from her gorgeous lines and fast cruise approaching 30 knots! The most recent and only Wolf Class 44 built at Morris Yachts, she is a stand-out by any measure. Her classic good looks are enhanced by modern amenities and features much in demand in today’s market: fast cruising speed- from twin CAT 660hp diesels; ease of maneuvering around the dock- from twin engines and bow thruster; protected and comfortable seating for three to four couples - with Stidd pedestal chairs (one a double) and generous settees on the bridge deck; a large and functional cockpit- with wetbar, full beam transom seating and built-in side boarding steps; legitimate cruising interior- with large head and separate stall shower, lower dinette lounge, full galley and private cabin forward with island berth.

Unlike her sisterships TARA JEANNE has additional freeboard (approx. 2.25”) to allow for a considerably larger engine package with a raised bridge deck providing exceptional sightlines for the helmsperson and sea views for her lucky passengers alike. The upgraded engines and resulting power, speed and handling cannot be overstated. By way of example, the boat is capable of cruising at 22 knots on a single engine! With both engines turning, easy cruising speeds of 27-28 knots with max speed of 33+knots is the order of any given day. This additional torque combined with a prodigious full trim weight of nearly 36,000lbs helps TARA JEANNE perform like a 12-cylinder touring car while riding like a Mack truck through challenging seas. She is really something to behold and we put this vessel right up there with the very best riding powerboats we have ever experienced.

TARA JEANNE is now offered for sale for the first time by her original owners who have spared no expense keeping the vessel in top condition. Carefully cared for at Bristol Marine for twenty-plus years: the history, pedigree and lines of this fine yacht make her truly special and sure to turn heads in every harbor.

DESIGN ELEMENTS AND CONTRUCTION DETAILS

The Morris Wolf Class 44, one of the finest designs to spring from the boards of Paine Yacht Design, redefined the contemporary Maine express cruiser. Not a replica: she has sweeping lines, a distinctive profile and a smooth-riding hull. This 44-footer's Downeast origins are evident in the long, graceful profile and prominent, upturned bow- reminiscent and reflective of earlier Bunker and Ellis woodies built on Mount Desert Island years ago. The hull shape, however, is fully modern with a warped "V" with a very fine forward entry for wave penetration that flattens out to a 7.5 degree deadrise angle at the transom with “hard” chines to prevent roll and a partial skeg to provide excellent tracking as well as protection for the running gear. The result is better performance and fuel economy at lower speeds than a true deep "Vee” hull and a very smooth and capable ride at 27 knots when the going gets tough.

Hull skins are hand laid with Vinylester resin above the waterline with E-glass while the bottom skins are E-glass and Kevlar. The hull is cored with Corecell non-water absorbing foam of 1” and varying densities and eliminated in way of hull penetrations and reinforced areas such as the propeller struts, shaft logs and rudder posts as well as along the hull centerline. The deck is cored with both balsa and foam cores with E-glass and polyester resin, except the bridge deck is laminated with carbon fibre skins.  Individual molds were used for bridge deck seats, cockpit furniture and cockpit sides and bonded with Epoxy. The hull to deck joint is permanently bonded with 3M 5200 and thru-bolted every 8”o.c. Additionally, the toe rail is bedded and attached through this joint using self-tapping screws at @ 8” o.c.  High tech and robust.
